Art at the begining of the 20th century

At the beginning of the 20th century, painters gradually broke away from impresionism. The main concern is no longer to paint the light and once again the paintings are done at the workshop. There is no longer any attempt to represent the real at a time when photography is spreading. The ambition of painters is to go beyond nature to achieve a greater and truer reality.the masters of the paintings are Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne. Gauguin reproaches Impressionism (for having no soul); it is proclaimed that (nature has had its day); theories are elaborated, schools are born.It is thought that the role of the artist is to replace the real with (plastic equivalents). In the midst of an intense activity, we can see the birth of several currents, among which the Nabi movement which claims to be Gauguin, the fauvism, inspired by Van Gogh, and one of whose principal representatives is Matisse, the cubism, which refers to Cezanne and, willingly anticolorist, wants to paint simultaneously an object in all its aspects; its great master is Braque.
Sculpture, under the influence of Rodin, proposes also, beyond the external forms, to translate the states of the soul.
